Austrian Academy of Sciences

Founded in 1847, the Austrian Academy of Sciences has developed from a science community into a support organisation of modern research institutions.

The Austrian Academy of Sciences is a legal entity under the special protection of the Federal Republic of Austria. According to the statutes of the Academy its mission is to promote the sciences and humanities in every respect and in every field, particularly in basic research.

The Austrian Academy of Sciences is funded by discretionary loans granted by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. Additional funds are obtained from third parties, particularly through research contracts.
